For me, teaching the saz is as important as performing it. This instrument is not only wood and strings—it is a gateway into the soul of Turkish culture and a reflection of who we are.
For more than twenty years, I’ve taught students of all levels, from beginners to advanced players. My teaching philosophy is inspired by masters like Erdal Erzincan, yet I adapt it to each person’s way of learning. Some students need structure; others need freedom. What matters most is helping each player find their own voice through music.
In my classes, we work on three pillars:
-
Technical mastery, to play with precision and emotion.
-
A rich repertoire, to explore the vast landscape of Turkish melodies and rhythms.
-
Personal expression, because every saz has a story to tell, and every player must learn to tell theirs.
When I see a student discover the beauty of a single note played from the heart, I am reminded why I began this journey. The saz, like life, rewards patience, curiosity, and love.
